On the 5th of August, the Mount Edgecombe Conference Centre had the profound honour of playing host to a deeply moving Gala Dinner, commemorating the legacy of the 1860 Indentured Labourers. These brave souls journeyed across the seas to South Africa and other parts of the world to plant the very foundation of the sugarcane industry, leaving an enduring mark on history and heritage.

The event brought together guests from across the globe — descendants, historians, cultural leaders, and community members — united by a shared lineage and respect for the resilience of those early pioneers. Stories were shared, connections were forged, and history came alive in a truly phenomenal evening of reflection, pride, and celebration.
